OUR COMMUNITY SERVICES

PADCA came into being "to improve the circumstances of older people". The Social and Community Workers are at the heart of PADCA's services to seniors. Their expertise and input spans the continuum of PADCA's services and it is this which contributes the special PADCA difference. We see every senior we assist as part of the family whether based in the community or in one of the accommodation facilities.

The professionalism of this small but important team ensures PADCA continues to meet that goal of helping seniors and their families to find a way through a maze of problems and challenges, and to explore different options to best meet each individual’s circumstances.

Our dynamic and pro-active team of Social Workers are also called on to deal with a multiplicity of situations and needs, their knowledge of both the PADCA resources and those available in the community ensures insightful guidance. All interactions with seniors and their families are handled compassionately and in the strictest confidence.

COMMUNITY WORK

Our Social and Community Workers oversee the Rural Grannies Clubs and Home Based Care (HBC) programme.

The HBC programme comprises of more than 41 volunteer carers assisting over 350 seniors in the rural communities. We cover areas in the Greater Msunduzi region; from Wartburg to Sweetwaters to Elandskop and Pietermaritzburg. These carers are in touch with the needs of the seniors in their communities and are a vital link in keeping us aware of the plight of many seniors.

SOCIAL CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

PADCA promotes Active Ageing through activities such as the PADCA Sports Day and PADCA Mile (annual walk). Clubs : Seniors who enjoy social activities, mental stimulation and are eager to enjoy the company of their peers, thus combating loneliness, are welcome at any or all our Social Clubs. The Clubs are volunteer directed and give purpose and meaning to many seniors lives.

The Social and Community Workers oversee the rural clubs and their role includes:

  • affirming seniors value in terms of their roles as care takers, crafters and a resource to their community,
  • social outings to give them a reprieve from their difficult circumstances,
  • above all: build capacity and strengthen their resilience.
